1998 Season Highlights
This year was bittersweet. It saw the Cats reach the mountaintop and also the valley. It was an amazing ride.
The Cats achieved their first #1 ranking ever.

The Cats won the Big 12 North.
The Cats finished in the top 3 in offense AND defense.
The Cats became the first team to defeat All Big 12 opponents.
|Michael Bishop finished #2 for the Heisman trophy and the AP player of the year. He also won the Davey O'Brien award for the nation's top quarterback. He was also voted first team All Big 12.|
|Bill Snyder was named the AP national coach of the year. This is the 3rd time he has been nominated.|
|Return specialist David Allen tied a NCAA record by returning 4 punts for touchdowns in 1998. He is the only man to return a punt for a touchdown in 3 consecutive games. He led the nation in punt return average. He was named first team All-American.||
|Martin Grammatica set a record for longest field goal without a tee, kicking a 65 yard field goal vs. Northern Illinois. Grammatica finished 2nd for the Lou Groza award for the top place kicker. Grammatica also was named 2nd team All-American and first team All-Big 12.|
|Darnell McDonald set a K-State record for reception yards in a season. He was voted 3rd team All-American and first team All-Big 12.|
|Aaron Lockett set a freshman receiving record by catching over 900 yards in passes. He was named freshman All-American.|
